Concert June 26th 2009 - Pagosa Springs, CO Performing ancient melodies from the British Isles with a subtle and beautiful style, Barlow’s music ranges from lively jigs and reels to lovely airs. Barlow is one of a few innovative guitarists who have taken on the challenge of transferring ancient bagpipe and harp music to the guitar. And the results are stunning.
“I specialize in a genre of music known as Celtic finger style guitar,” says Barlow. “This approach enables the guitarist to play bass, melody and chords at the same time. Alternate tunings (that is, tunings other than standard guitar tunings) were developed to assist the guitarist in capturing the magic of this ancient music.”
Barlow has immersed himself in the rich history of the Celtic people whose music he plays. Knowing the legends and events behind the songs adds another meaningful dimension to his concerts.
An award-winning musician, Barlow is a consummate performer who has been on the A-list of concert musicians in Colorado for years. The title song from his CD, Bring Down the Storm, won the prestigious Independent Music Award in 2006.
